Blogging Potential
I am still, like many of my classmates in the graduate program I am a member of, unsure how blogs can be used in my teaching practices. This seems to be especially perplexing to my peers who teach primary grades. Many would like to see examples. With this in mind I attempted to goggle for various educational/classroom examples. I was successful with this approach and I found various examples I would like to share with my peers. Unfortunately I will need to complete the search again in order to include some links to the examples I found interesting. Richardson shares his beliefs of what "is" or "is not" a blog, but when you did the search like I have described I seemed to encounter some examples Richardson would not necessarily categorize as a blog. Look for links to examples of blogs used for educational purposes in my next posting. I think the most important thing we can do to explore the idea of blogs and education is to approach our investigations with a very opened mind. I think through our discussions and personal investigations we will find many potential options students will willingly "buy into".

There are definitely some challenges with blogs in the primary grades compared to middle school and high school. More of a good writing tool for the primary grades, more of a place to put their thoughts
ReplyDeleteI too am having trouble fitting a blog into the classwork of primary grades. I just can't yet see Kindergarten adding to a blog they can barely type out their names on the keyboard. But maybe using pictures we can work something out. I like your idea of keeping an open mind. That is essential in using any of these web 2.0 tools.
ReplyDeleteI do think blogs give students another avenue to express themselves. It also can improve their writing skills.
